MC Lyte was one of the first gear female rappers to point out the sexism and misogynism that oft runs rampant in rap, oft taking the guinea pig head on lyrically in her songs and portion exposed the door for such future artists as Queen Latifah and Missy Elliott. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Lyte began riming at the historic period of 12, which eventually light-emitting diode to a exclusive, "I Cram to Understand U," which light-emitting diode to a recording undertake with the First Priority judge. MC Lyte's debut full-length, Lyte As a Rock, surfaced in 1988, spell a follow-up, Eyes on This, followed a year later. Both discs are considered to be the finest of the rapper's career, particularly her soph effort, which spawned the remove single "Cha Cha Cha" (peaking at number one on the rap charts) and the anti-violence cart track "Cappucino." Lyte turned to Bell Biv DeVoe's writers and producers Wolf & Epic for her third passing overall, 1991's Pretend Like You Know, a more person music-based work than its predecessors and in 1993, issued Ain't No Other (the album's popular unmarried, "Ruffneck," earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Single and turned extinct to be the number one gold exclusive of all time achieved by a distaff rap creative person).

Simple Minds To Release Two New Albums

Newly reformed Scot rockers Simple Minds have revealed they could release two new albums because sessions in the studio have been going so well.

Frontman Jim Kerr explained to the Daily Record: “The writing sessions have somehow taken over our entire lives, but they have worked out perfectly.

“I am having difficulty in remembering the last time we had such an abundance of material prior to recording.

"We may even have enough songs of sufficient quality for two albums.”

The original line-up only announced in July that they would be working together for the first time in 27 years and fans will be over the moon to hear that they may get even more then they bargained for.

There are no plans for releasing a double album of the material and the first album is pencilled in for an early 2009 release.

The band will play the Nelson Mandela birthday concert this Friday at Hyde Park before heading out on a short UK tour to celebrate their 30 years in the industry.

Kerr added: “It is just as well that we seemingly have enough energy to see us through it all; undoubtedly we are going to need it.”

Will Smith comes to rescue of flawed "Hancock"

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Will Smith's powers are even more extraordinary than those of a caped crusader who can leap way beyond the tallest buildings in a single bound.

Smith has salvaged many vehicles more threadbare than "Hancock," and though his latest venture is decidedly uneven, he seems poised to score yet another supervictory at the box office when it opens July 2. The Columbia Pictures release is a good showcase for him -- and for co-stars Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman. Imagine the heights they all could have scaled if the picture had been really good.

One suspects that the movie's problems stem from the multitude of cooks who toiled on the project during the several years it took to reach the screen. Although the script is credited to Vy Vincent Ngo and Vince Gilligan, several others worked on it, including producers Akiva Goldsman and Michael Mann. Jonathan Mostow and Gabriele Muccino were among the directors attached to the project before Peter Berg signed on. Somewhere along the way, a sharp black comedy lost its bite.

The movie's sly premise is established in its opening scenes, which reflect the tart sensibility of Gilligan, the creator of AMC's bracingly cynical series "Breaking Bad." Hancock is a crime-fighter going through what appears to be a midlife crisis. He's a foulmouthed drunk who springs into action when Los Angeles is in trouble, but he behaves with such wanton disregard for people and property that he often alienates the citizens whose lives he saves.

When Hancock rescues an idealistic PR man (now there's an oxymoron), the grateful Ray (Bateman) embarks on a campaign to burnish Hancock's bad-boy image. The benevolent publicist -- the antithesis of Tony Curtis' sleazy Sidney Falco in "Sweet Smell of Success" -- is another choice comic character. The movie introduces a third when Hancock meets Ray's wife, Mary (Theron). There are mysterious sparks between the loutish superhero and the pert suburban housewife, and it's clear that Mary has some connection to Hancock's past. But this is where the movie starts to unravel. It veers from comedy to romantic tragedy and introduces an elaborate backstory that never makes much sense.

The best comic book movies develop a rigorous and logical mythology. As "Hancock" races toward its spectacular but muddled finale, it keeps rewriting its own rules in an effort to pander to the audience. The storytelling lapses are not helped by Berg's frenetic direction. As he showed in his most recent film, "The Kingdom," Berg is addicted to intense close-ups and kinetic hand-held camera movement. He seems to be worshiping at the altar of Michael Bay.

Berg's strength lies in his appreciation for actors and keen eye for casting. Bateman has brightened many recent movies, including "Juno" and "The Promotion," but no one has given him such a juicy part in years. The actor rips into it lustily. British actor Eddie Marsan (a member of Mike Leigh's stock company) also makes a strong impression as a genuinely creepy villain.

Special effects supervised by veteran John Dykstra are at once witty and eye-popping. In keeping with the concept of the surly superhero, Hancock makes his entrances and exits spewing mounds of concrete in his hazardous wake. The visual effects are stellar, but the true star is Smith, who again demonstrates acting chops as well as effortless charisma in a vehicle that's only occasionally worthy of his superhuman skills.

The Cribs: 'The Sex Pistols are sexually fantastic'

The Cribs played a raucous afternoon set at the Isle Of Wight festival this afternoon (June 14) at which they described The Sex Pistols, who are set to headline the festival later tonight, as "sexually fantastic".

The sunny weather brought out a typically high-octane performance from the Wakefield trio, with bassist Gary Jarman ending the set by hurling his bass guitar into drummer Ross Jarman's drum kit.

Watched from the side of the stage by singer Ryan Jarman's girlfriend Kate Nash and The Enemy's Tom Clarke, the band played a set including hits 'Hey Scenesters', 'Moving Pictures' and 'Men's Needs'.

Before playing 'Mirror Kissers' Ryan Jarman told the crowd about his night out the previous evening. "We went to a karaoke bar," he told the audience. "When we were singing songs we thought we were going to get our heads kicked in. So it's nice to sing some songs here without fear of getting our heads kicked in."

After playing 'Another Number' later in the set the singer/guitarist paid tribute to The Sex Pistols, who will grace the stage tonight. "We played with them before," he told the crowd, referring to the support slots they played with the punk legends recently. "They were sexually fantastic".

Two songs later, as set-closer 'The Wrong Way' reached its death, Gary Jarman threw his instrument a full ten feet in the air before it crashed down on his brother's drum kit. Ryan Jarman, meanwhile, knocked over an amp stack with his guitar before thanking the crowd and heading off stage.

The Cribs played:

'Our Bovine Public'
'Hey Scenesters'
'Don't You Wanna Be Relevant?'
'My Life Flashed Before My Eyes'
'Women's Needs'
'Moving Pictures'
'Mirror Kissers'
'Men's Needs'
'Another Number'
'I'm A Realist'
'The Wrong Way To Be'

Zac Efron Loves 'Nice, Long, Sexy Legs'

Zac Efron has revealed he's a bit of a leg man when it comes to the ladies.

The High School Musical heartthrob - who dates his on-screen love interest Vanessa Hudgens off-screen –  goes into specifics about what he looks for in the opposite sex in a new interview.

He explains, "I don't know the exact measurements but I like curvy girls - girls with hips. I'm also huge on legs. I love girls with nice, long, sexy legs.
"I don't always find myself dating super-skinny girls.

But Zac is quick to add that it's more about what's on the 'inside' than physical beauty when it comes to attraction.

“It's not all about what you look like, it's so much more,” he insists.
“I know it sounds really cheesy but it's more about what's on the inside when you're dating a girl."

Kate Moss Ready For Baby Number 2?

Kate Moss's broody behaviour has prompted speculation that she is ready for a second child.

The supermodel - who has a 5-year-old daughter, Lila - reportedly became very attached to a fan's baby outside a North London shop recently.

"A fan spotted Kate and went over to ask her for her autograph. Kate then noticed the woman was with a little baby and practically snatched the kid out of its mum's hands,” an onlooker tells The Mirror.

"She couldn't stop smiling and kept telling Jamie how cute the baby was. It looked as if she didn't want to give it back."

Kate has been snapped sporting slight belly bulge lately (see above) - could the hard partying model and boyfriend Jamie Hince have already got to work on a little brother or sister for Lila?
